Nearly $150K from Angel Funding for Collegedunia.com
According to the latest buzz, Delhi based online education portal called collegedunia.com has been able to raise nearly $ 162,787 (Rs 1 crore) from angel investors, including Umang Kumar (CEO of Gaadi.com), 3.14 Digital, a leading Affiliate marketing Company and undisclosed investors. Reportedly, these funds will be utilized by the company, for the purpose of enhancing technology, marketing, operations and effective content management. By being able to raise such a hefty sum of money, the relatively new company called collegedunia.com, which was launched in May 2014, has been able to reinforce the trust placed by students and parents in it.
The online portal of collegedunia.com is an ideal way to learn about various colleges around the country, including academic programs and courses offered by them and the fee structure for the respective courses. At present, the portal covers nearly 20000 colleges around the country, but this number is being increased, with an expected 7000-8000 more colleges to be added to the list in the next six month.
According to a press release at Businesswire India Sahil Chalana, the Founder of Collegedunia, the portal aims to feature as the Zomato of education industry, covering all aspects of information regarding educational institutions, coaching centers, college reviews, entrance test details and fee structures of various courses. Collegedunia.com is already catering to nearly one lakh visitors per month, and is expecting to increase this figure to nearly a million by April, 2015. It already has an employee base of 30 people, handling content, sales, technology and call center departments and is planning to add 40 more employees in the upcoming six months. The whole team of workers is dedicated to attract more and more viewers to make use of the website. The portal is earning money through listing and lead generation, whereby it receives Cost per Lead from the college, every time a student applies here through the site. Additionally, revenue comes through advertising of colleges and educational institutions on the portal. Leading clients who are already being served by collegedunia.com include some big names such as NIIT Ltd, Sikkim Manipal University, LPU, Symbiosis Institute, IMT Ghaziabad and Hughes Education. Soon, more colleges and institutions will be featured on the portal to help parents and students choose wisely and pick the best courses and institutions for themselves.
